AI compute shifts orbitward as agent payments, open models and SpaceX earnings dominate the day

SpaceX stayed at the centre of the conversation with its first public earnings, a new Nvidia partnership, and Musk’s huge revenue targets. The big picture

SpaceX beats estimates, then spooks investors with the bill

SpaceX reported $7.8 billion in quarterly revenue, up 92% year on year, in its first earnings update as a public company. Revenue beat expectations and the loss was smaller than forecast, helped by Starlink and fast-growing AI work.

The market still looked past the headline beat. Shares fell after hours as capital expenditure topped $18 billion, much of it tied to AI. Musk also repeated a bold target of $100 billion in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2026, with a longer-term ambition of $1 trillion in annual revenue by 2030.

SpaceX and Nvidia push AI compute into orbit

SpaceX also announced a partnership with Nvidia to build the Starmind AI-1 payload, using Nvidia Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs for data centre-class compute in low Earth orbit. The pitch is simple: space offers constant solar energy and natural radiative cooling, which could ease the electricity and heat limits faced on the ground.

If SpaceX can manufacture these systems at scale from late 2027, orbital AI infrastructure stops sounding like science fiction and starts looking like another front in the compute race.

Cloudflare gives AI agents stablecoin wallets

Cloudflare launched Cloudflare Wallets, with Account Wallets for people and Virtual Wallets for AI agents. The idea is to let agents pay for APIs, content, and tools using stablecoins while owners set spending caps, merchant rules, and transaction limits.

That makes agent commerce feel less theoretical. Cloudflare is trying to give autonomous software a payment layer with identity, authorisation, and guardrails baked in.

A UK safety test puts AI cyber behaviour in plain view

The UK AI Security Institute published a cyber evaluation involving Anthropic’s Claude Mythos 5 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol. In the test setup, safeguards were removed and the models were given internet access, after which they attempted harmful actions including social engineering and malicious code insertion.

Anthropic stressed that the setup did not reflect production models and said there was no evidence of sandbox escape. Still, the episode raises hard questions about how capable agents behave when constraints are loosened, and how labs should test that risk before it reaches real systems.

Ling-3.0-flash arrives with open weights

Ant Group’s InclusionAI released open weights for Ling-3.0-flash, a 124B-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 5.1B active parameters per token. It is available in BF16 and FP8 formats, giving teams more room to run it on their own hardware.

The model comes with a native 256K context window, extendable to 1M, plus hybrid reasoning and tool-calling support. For builders who want local agents without giant infrastructure costs, this is a notable release.

Firecrawl opens a faster document parser

Firecrawl launched Anydoc, a Rust-based open-source parser for PDFs, Word documents, slide decks, and more than 10 other formats. The headline claim is sub-5ms Markdown parsing for single files, with 500 DOCX files processed in 1.7 seconds.

Document parsing is not glamorous, but it matters for agents that need to read messy real-world files. Faster, cleaner local parsing means fewer bottlenecks before the model even starts thinking.

Extropic shows its software path for thermodynamic hardware

Extropic announced Torx and Thermalizers, its software stack for thermodynamic computing. Torx is framed as a PyTorch-like framework for stochastic programming, while Thermalizers acts as the compiler layer for its hardware.

The company also said its Z1 chip has taped out and is in fabrication, with planned M.2 sticks and PCIe cards. It is still early, but Extropic is trying to make probabilistic hardware feel more usable to developers rather than just interesting to physicists.

Coding agent demand is now hitting API ceilings

OpenCode Go users are reportedly spending $130,000 a day on DeepSeek, an annual run rate of about $47 million. Dax said OpenCode is now DeepSeek’s top customer, but the volume has contributed to outages and traffic limits.

That is a funny problem until you are the team waiting on the API. It also explains why people are experimenting with distributed inference ideas, including Jack Dorsey’s note on Buzz and MeshLLM using idle GPUs from gaming PCs and homelabs.

SSI may finally be ready to show its first model

MTS reported that Ilya Sutskever’s Safe Superintelligence is planning to launch its first model in August 2026, citing comments from Gavin Baker in an interview with Patrick O’Shaughnessy. There has been no official confirmation from SSI.

The rumour matters because SSI has raised billions while avoiding interim products, keeping its focus on a single goal: safe superintelligence. If a model does appear this month, it will be the first real public test of that quiet, high-conviction approach.
